Elliott is a poet and musician.
He studied music and creative writing at the University of Oregon. He also studied extensively with Michael Guerra, Former saxophonist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Cecil Taylor, pianist/composer/improvisor, and Claire Polin, flutist/composer.
Elliott has performed throughout the U.S. and the world with many groups including: CECIL TAYLOR'S UNIT CORE ENSEMBLE, HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUE NOTES, SCRAM!, NEW GHOST, ATZILUT:(FOURTH WORLD), and TALKING FREE BEBOP. He has contributed in performance with poets Miguel Algarin, Gloria Tropp, Mbali Umoja, Marty Watt, and Frank Messina & Spoken Motion among many others. Venues have included Carnegie Hall, The United Nations, The U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Yale University, The Greek Theatre, Watts Towers, Lollapalooza! and scores of galleries, clubs and theatres.
He has received grant awards from New American Radio, The City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, and the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, for his music and poetry.
Elliott's recordings of original poetry and music include OLDUVAI MUSIC (Tiwa Records), ILTAR (Tiwa Records), POETRY IN PHILADELPHIA (Welcome Worlds Cassettes), A GIFT OF GHOSTS (New American Radio), THE FOURTH WORLD (Jack Kessler Productions, IF IT DROPPED IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD YOU'D LOOK UP TOO! (West Philadelphia Compilation - Starfish Productions). He has also recorded performances with groups including SCRAM!, INTUITIVE MUSIC UNIT, E.D.O., and INTERPLAY.
HEAT PRESS of Los Angeles has also published 'does it swing?', Elliott's first book of poetry in August 1996.
